A Tiny Break

Standard

I’m usually a very dedicated blogger averaging around three to four posts a week.  Sometimes, however, life catches up to me and tears me away from the computer.  Over the next few days, I’ll be taking a little breather from blogging in order to catch up on the following:

1) Delivering hundreds and hundreds of canned food to my school’s food bank headquarters.  My classes really pulled together and collected a giant pile of food items for this year’s food drive.  At the moment, we have 521 cans.  There’s still four hours until the deadline, too!  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: my students rock!

2)  Baking 80 cupcakes.  Part of the reason my students contributed so much to the food drive was because they wanted homemade cupcakes and a movie day.  I haven’t done the math yet to figure out just how many boxes of cake mix and icing I will need!  Yikes!  All weekend, I’ll be slaving over the oven, (its worth it!).

3) Visiting family.  My aunt flew into to town this week and I haven’t had a chance to see her.  She’s one of my favorite people in this world and I can’t wait to give her a hug.

4) Twilighting with all the other geeks.  I’ve made no secret that I’m a Twilight fan and today it’s all about Breaking Dawn: Part I.  A bunch of friends and my sister will be joining me for a late night showing of the latest Twilight film.  To get good seats, we’re going to the theater two hours early to wait in line.  It sounds awful, but to a Twilight fan there’s nothing better than hanging out with other fans.  I vow to give in to my inner geek and have a great time!

5) Everything else.  Aside from the first four, there’s cleaning the house, laundry, my mother-in-law’s birthday, grocery shopping, and getting the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly (Breaking Dawn is on the cover!).  Ahhhh!

Of course, sometimes I tell myself I’m going to take a break and then I can’t help myself.  We’ll see how long I last!  Today, I’m going to try and catch up on answering comments – I’m sorry for not answering right away. Thank you readers!  You are the best!

  1. I’m an aunt and I think a rather Auntie Mameish at that. Aunts are special and to have her with you – how lovely. I hope you have a good time. Give yourself some credit, teaching and blogging and writing and grading papers and baking cupcakes. I feel like I should do your laundry. I am a former public education teacher. I know the terrain. I applaud your dedication to your craft.

Enjoy your holiday break. I always loved this time of year, solely for the countdown to Thanksgiving break and Christmas break. 2 weeks!!! Enjoy your holidays.

Enjoy the time and come back refreshed! We all have so much on our plates, that sometimes we plate spinners need to rest our arms. :) Have fun, breathe deep and rest.

  3. Have a grat “break.” Your break sounds like total chaos to me but I know you will enjoy every bit of it because that’s what you do. Have a great visit with your aunt. I assume this is the arsty one. How fun.

  4. Yea! You take a break means I can take one too….time is at a premium and my latest Post (Draft) is taking me an hour to prepare. Answering comments, necessary, but also takes time.
Enjoy the satisfaction of making a difference to the lives of your students.

    • It was so cool to see them all pull together for a common goal. The school always has a competition to see what homeroom class can collect the most food items. Every year I lose (and lose big), but this year was different! I loved seeing them try so hard and really care about how our class did. We find out on Monday if we won.

We collected a grand total of 834 items! Awesome! :-D

  5. Relax, put your feet up, turn off the phone, lock the doors, nope – don’t see any of that in there for your little break.

Have fun doing the things you are doing, maybe later you can chill.
    :-)

    • By some miracle, I ended up with a moment to relax today. I figured I’d stop at my favorite coffee shop on my way to the grocery store and take a little breather. I have a cup of coffee and long list of blogs to catch up on reading. :-)

  6. Funny how life has a way of pulling us in so many directions. Sounds like you’re being pulled in some good directions, though. These are all worthy causes. Enjoy your busy, busy weekend. :)

I want to try one of those cupcakes. Enjoy all the activities you are doing. Sounds like a lot of good stuff with people and that’s important. Connections. Whether by blogging or in person. And I can not wait to see the new Twilight movie!

    • They were overwhelming to bake, but it was totally worth it to see my students smile like they did. :-)

Of course, now I don’t care if I ever see another cupcake. I’ve never made that many at once in my life!

New writing material abounds! It’s amazing how even when I’m not physically writing, I’m still writing in my head. :-)

  8. 80 cupcakes!? What flavor? The number sounds so daunting…
Thanks for posting a blog signaling a little break in your writing. As a new blogger, I find it very comforting that I can visit your blog at any time, and there will always be something new, of quality. Thanks for offering us this stability and continuity!

    • Twilighters unite! I’ve seen it a couple more times since and it keeps getting better and better! :-)

The holidays are crazy, but I love how the chaos is blanketed with so much love and warmth. I have a feeling that this Christmas is going to be a really wonderful one.

  9. I don’t want to scare you but this sounds like a post from my blog. It’s hard when life takes control but it sounds like it was full of delightful reasons to miss blogging. Everyone needs a break; I’m glad to see you’re back in peak form. I have lots to catch up on!

    Happy writing!
