Last week was filled with hills and valleys, but I’m still inspired and kicking. For the most part, I’ve been able to keep up with my NaNoWriMo schedule, but there were two days that did not cooperate with my writing goals.
The first of those days was beyond my control. I ended up succumbing to a pretty bad sinus infection and headache. When I turned on my computer and everything was blurry, I knew writing was out of the question. I worked on Novel #2 in my head, but as we all know that is not the same thing as actually making the revisions.
The second no-write day was totally my fault. My new obsession with knitting got the best of me and I totally lost track of time. I recently learned how to knit on needles (instead of a loom) and it is far more addicting that I previously thought. My aunt tried to warn me, but I didn’t believe her! There is nothing more lethal to a writing schedule than beautiful Norwegian wool and a new pattern for a cowl. I shall have to be more mindful of that from now on!
Despite two instances of a zero word count, I’m still on track thanks to a couple of writing sessions that resulted in word counts of over a thousand.
So far, I am ahead of schedule with my revised word count total of 6,592. To stay on track, I’ll need to have 7,500 words revised by November 15th. At this point, I’m pretty confident of hitting that benchmark.

Good for you. If it makes you feel any better, I’ve got the mother of all colds and I didn’t get much done today. I’ve already been on a 3 week+ break for research, and now this. I was sooo ready to start adding to my word count again.

The knitting obsession thing cracks me up. Words vs. stitches. How can you tear yourself away from the rhythmic, sure-thing, tangible productivity of knitting to try to write when you’re feeling icky? Words can be so much harder… uncertain and slippery sometimes. 🙂

Exactly! I started a new pattern and I love the rhythm it has. I never realized knitting had a beat until I sat down to do it. I’m amazed at how different projects each have a unique feeling. In some ways, it is very much like writing, although you’re right that words are a little more uncertain.

I’m happy to read that you’re doing so well, despite the distractions. Sinus infections are no fun at all, so I’m glad it’s not as bad as it was. The knitting bug hasn’t hit me, yet, but if it’s anything like the scrapbooking bug, I can relate! I hope your car isn’t too banged up from your car accident. I narrowly avoided one just yesterday when an idiot came out of a parking lot without looking. It was a good thing I was! Good luck with the rest of the month. 🙂

I was bit pretty badly by the scrapbooking bug, too. My craft closet still holds the evidence. I go back to it often and I’m sure the next round isn’t far away.
My car is fine, but my husband’s truck has a new wound. He’s pretty upset, but I think once the damage is fixed all will be well with the world again. 😉

Good to hear you’re feeling better. You’re doing great. I never thought of keeping a NaNo diary… good idea so you can look back, and see what worked. So far, I’ve had seven total non-writing days during NaNo. That’s half the days so far, which sounds a lot, but those days left no time for writing at all. On the days I have had, I’ve been doing 3 or 4k, so I’m still almost on track. Not sure I would keep doing that much after Nov, but I’m loving the adrenaline rush!

Get well soon, I was victim to a sinus infection at the end of last year and it really floors you doesn’t it.

Me too, she really helped for circular knitting tips too. Cat Bordhi is also amazing. Have you found Ravelry yet? Its brillient, lots of info and free patterns BUT also a good way to loose a day, because theres always new stuff being posted 😉

Next time you’re flat out on that couch here’s a suggestion that works for me: I have a small hand recorder with me when I’m away from the computer and instead of working on my writing projects in my head, I talk to the machine. I purchased voice-to-text software that only requires editing when I transfer the files to the pc. This mini-miracle for capturing all those ideas and notes and dialogue and poetry happened by default when my dominant hand was locked to my torso for 6 weeks following shoulder surgery.

Great idea, I tend to keep a note book near me for whenever I see something or have an idea I’d like to expand upon later. Its really handy when you get an idea in the middle of the night, you can write it down before you forget and then get back to sleep. I find if I don’t ’empty my brain’ before I go to bed, then my brain will tend to keep working away at ideas and then I don’t sleep.
Then when your mojo is a no show, you have a notebook of inspiration 🙂
