The obvious path
leads to simple truth
For those who want more,
bring courage and heart
Hunt on rugged slopes,
defy the steep climb
Search through lively leaves,
bear the wounds of thorns
What truly matters,
finds shelter in roots

Whenever I see photos of the Great Wall, I often wonder if the terrain was as full of jungle as it is today. If it was, what a monumental task it would have been to cut down all the trees before they built the wall. It boggles the mind.

The terrain was much as it is today – Rocky, steep, and full of vegetation. I can’t imagine building anything, much less a fortified wall in that environment!

Your poem captures the organic life of The Great Wall with passion. Severtal years ago I walked upon a portion of the newly reconstructed monument under a blazing sun and felt its roots wrap my feet.

I had a similar feeling – it’s like history reaches up and wraps around you.

Finding shelter in the roots of ancient wisdom is a heroine’s path I think. Not for the faint of heart and filled with rich rewards.
