Here we go! The 2015 April Poem A Day Challenge (on Poetic Asides via Writer’s Digest) is in full swing. Just as I did for the November PAD Challenge, I’ll be writing haikus for each daily prompt. Only this time around, I’ll be focusing on modern haiku rather than the traditional 5-7-5 format.
Modern haiku has a much looser interpretation of the form in that it can vary in syllable count, typically ranging between 9 to 12 syllables. Moreover, line counts vary between 1 to 3 lines. While the form is wide open, the soul of modern haiku remains the same. It’s all about simple language that highlights observations inspired by nature.
