Sunset is my favorite time to visit the beach. It’s quiet, the colors are spectacular, and the waves seem to slow down just a bit. The water curls around my ankles and the sand rolls between my toes, a gentle soothing reminder that it’s time to let the day go and embrace the stillness of stars and the moon. Little by little the light dims, turning the sky from blue to raven, while the water darkens into a peaceful abyss.

I captured this moment from the window of a train! The pastoral beauty of Switzerland with it’s snow-capped mountains and cow-filled fields was beyond anything I could have imagined. Crisp, clean air reminded me how to breathe, while the blue in the sky is so deep you can’t help but daydream as the clouds pass by. This place is magical and I can’t wait to visit again someday.

Some views make you work for it. A friend and I drove from Portland, Oregon into the wilds of the Willamette National Forest. We got lost more than once, almost ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere, and she could have sworn a bear was following us as we hiked the trail, (there was no bear, but I digress). It wasn’t long before the trail turned into more of a suggestion and we had to guess where the waterfall might be … that’s when we started listening. We followed the sound of cascading water until we finally spotted it through the trees. This hidden beauty was worth all the obstacles and imaginary bears. What a view!
