Livin’ the Dream

It’s been relatively quiet here and I thought I’d take a little break from the poetry to share what I’ve been up to the past few months. Back in February I took a chance and applied to Basic Stuff Magazine as a writer. To my great surprise and delight they added me to the team.

Basic Stuff Magazine is an online publication that focuses on fandoms and television shows fans love to geek out about. There is a heavy focus on Shadowhunters, which is my absolute favorite show, so naturally I was dying to write pieces about my favorite characters and the show as a whole. These guys gave me a chance to do that!

Over the last couple of months, I’ve basically been living my dream by writing reviews/recaps, and crafting interview questions. The team is a wonderful group of people that are incredibly creative and talented. I’ve learned so much from them about entertainment writing and collaboration within a media outlet. It’s been an incredible experience so far.

These are the pieces that have been published so far:

How To Make Your View Count

Basic Superlatives: Shadowhunters 3×16 “Stay With Me”

Basic Superlatives: Shadowhunters 3×17 “Heavenly Fire”

Basic Superlatives: Shadowhunters 3×18 “The Beast Within”

Exclusive Interview: The Director of United We Fan Discusses the Phenomenon of Fandom

All of these projects are the result of collaborative teamwork that ranges from brainstorming ideas, editing, and creating graphics. It’s amazing to not only be part of the team but also to watch each article take shape each step of the way.

I am simply missing London. This particular shot is not one I’ve previously shared. I snapped it while walking on the South Embankment with my husband. We spent about 15 minutes under a bridge, waiting for it to stop raining! This stretch of the embankment has the best views and it’s one of our favorite places of London. A cold, gray day is just quintessential London and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

My husband and I happened upon this site on our way to Montezuma’s Castle and it turned out to be a great little surprise. Look closely and you’ll see the remains of a Sinagua settlement in the stone cliffs that surround this natural spring well. It’s a remarkable thing to see this pocket of life in the middle of the desert and even more amazing to imagine the thriving community that once called this place home. There’s a trail that circles the water, so it’s possible to peer into some incredible archeological sites.
