Favorite Thing Friday: Fog

Standard

One day this week, I woke up to the oddest thing: Fog. I live in a desert, so the appearance of this thick white stuff really took me by surprise! Everything from shrubs, palm trees, and the sun were obscured in a haze that made my neighborhood look like a different planet.

I was so fascinated that the weather actually did something, I grabbed my camera and went on a little photography expedition through the mountain preserve across the street.

The fog was so thick, the mountain I normally see outside my window everyday was completely “gone.”

I swear there is usually a mountain in this view!

My running trail also fell under the spell of fog.

There’s usually a mountain in the distance, but not this time!

As I ventured further into the desert, the fog only got thicker. In some places, pockets of clear air sat inside thick walls of mist.

I literally could not see anything beyond what was in this shot!

Not even the sun could get through the blanket of fog!

It was another hour before the sun could finally poke through the fog.

I’m sure fog is a regular occurrence for many places, but it was a truly a remarkable event in Arizona. I love it when nature gives me a surprise, almost like an invitation to come outside and marvel in its wonder.

A Christmas Giggle

Standard

As many of us celebrate the joy of Christmas, I thought I’d share (again) my favorite Simon’s Cat Christmas video. Thank goodness my feline furkids have never been this intrigued by the Christmas tree!

Happy Holidays to everyone! May you be surrounded by those you love most.

Favorite Thing Friday: T-Rex Logic

Standard

After a very busy week of grading final exams and last minute assignments, a good old fashioned T-Rex meme is just what I needed. A friend sent the below quote graphic to me on Pinterest, thinking it would be a great quote for a Social Studies department t-shirt and it’s been making me laugh all week.

I’m usually not big on work logo shirts, but if my department decides to do this, I will totally wear it. Science is awesome, don’t get me wrong, but Humanities rocks, too!

Favorite Thing Friday: Simon’s Cat on Catnip

Standard

A new Simon’s Cat video is always great, but the annual Christmas Simon’s Cat video is better than great! This year’s video is easily among my favorite as it’s got to be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

Seriously, we’re talking cuteness overload.

I have a cat that hugs her catnip mouse and makes those cute little half meows half purrs. ❤

Even if you’re not a cat person, there is something to be said for finding so much happiness in such a small package!

Favorite Thing Friday: Gratitude

Standard

After stuffing myself with Thanksgiving turkey and spending time with family, I can’t forget to take a moment to be thankful for all the little blessings in my life. Every year, I like to sit down and make a list of 22 Moments of Gratitude and this year is no different.

1. My husband. It’s been 15 years and I still find myself falling in love with him.

2. Moments when Grandpa tells a great joke.

3. Time with my mother, to write or to talk.

4 Fridays with my sister. I love how we laugh.

5. Both of my furkids are still wagging their tails. At 11 and 14 years old, I treasure every moment I have with them.

6. While I am still heartbroken at the loss of a dear friend, I am grateful for the memories that remind to smile.

7. Yarn on my knitting needles and a new stitch to learn.

8. Books that give my imagination a place to play.

9. My overactive muse, who never lets me sit still for very long.

15. A small paycheck that always stretches out to be enough.

18. The natural world still moves me. I see the sun rise every morning and it always stuns me.

19. Laughing is still my favorite thing.

20. Finding empowerment in the choice to be happy, instead of relying on something or someone to make it happen.

21. The call to go somewhere new and consider a new start.

22. No matter what, I can always find my joy.
