Is It Too Early For Christmas? Nope!

Everything seemed to fall into place for making Christmas cards this weekend. First, my sister and I both had a day where we had nothing going on. Second, my best friend also had some free time. Third, the quintessential event that marks beginning of Christmas has occurred. I finally saw the Hershey Kiss Christmas commercial:

It’s been a long time since I made any sort of greeting card. I just couldn’t bring myself to touch a stamp after my Grandma passed away. Making cards was something we did together every year for more than a decade. For the last year, my paper, stamps, and ink pads have all been packed away in the closet.

This year, however, I feel quite differently. I decided making cards is a way to be with my Grandma and celebrate all the wonderful memories I have of her. As soon as we spread out all the supplies and snacks on the table, it felt like old times. We laughed, created, and had a great time.

Despite being a bit out of practice, I still managed to make some cute cards. I used some scraps leftover over from previous Christmases, along with some wooden gift tags I picked up at Target (only $3.oo for a pack of 24).

Gotta love those polka dots!

My sister brought over some punches, which reminded me I had some as well. We put them all out on the table went nuts. There were a lot of (funny looking) mistakes, but eventually we figured out how to use them well enough. The card above was made using a corner punch, while the cards below used a variety of corner and edge punches. Some obviously worked better than others!

One of those corners got away from me!

This is my favorite of the evening. The colors are just so different and fun.

Blue Christmas, anyone?

As I practiced with the punches, I started to get a little more brave about creating borders. Some glittery reindeer ended up with a beautiful spiral cut border to prance upon!

Do you recall, the most famous reindeer of all?

No card making session is complete until I make something  with a bit of plaid.

Plaid and stripes! It doesn’t get any better than that!!

The night ended far too soon, but how lovely it was to spend time with family and friends, while Grandma watched from above.

Stay tuned! More Christmas crafts to come!
