Alone

Standard

flipping channels
nothing is on
the dog waits
by the door
he doesn’t know
you won’t be home
two minute dinner
the microwave beeps
the dog still sits
he won’t listen to me
fading light
I lock the windows
and doors
it’s just me tonight
against the darkness
and moonlight
too much Dateline
my nerves shake
the dog gives up
and plops beside me
It’s not the same
without you here
I’ve grown used to
the sounds you make
how you fill my life
the dog whines
he must blame me
you’ll be back tomorrow
but he doesn’t know that

Favorite Thing Friday: Pug Face

Standard

A cute, bug-eyed pug has been roaming around my house this week. My in-laws are on vacation and we got to babysit their adorable pug. He’s been snuggling with us on the couch and snorting up a storm when he grabs a toy and plays. I’m sucker for that smashed-in face and googly eyes that never seem to stop moving!

This is one cute pug face . . .

My dogs are both pretty old, so having a younger dog around has been really wonderful. It’s nice to see my Tough Little Dog and the Old Man do more than sleep all evening! We have to bring him back on Saturday, but I’m hoping they’ll let us keep him until Sunday. He’s too cute!

Favorite Thing Friday: Reasons to Smile

Standard

I’m a sucker for cute animals, so during a week where I find a new Simon’s Cat video and a hilarious dog video it’s a given that I’ll post them on Favorite Thing Friday.

Simon’s Cat is at it again with “Suitcase.” While it’s cute on its own, this cartoon of cat behavior brought back some wonderful memories of a cat I had as a child. Whenever we pulled out the suitcase, she always played in it and “packed” her toys. I hadn’t thought of that memory in years and it was so nice to remember her in such a fun way, (she passed away a number of years ago).

Then, there’s the dog who is excited to get a kitten. On the youtube channel, PetsAddLife, there’s a series called “Pet Interviews,” where a really talented individual gives a voice to animals in a really funny and cute way. They are all hilarious, but the dog who wants a kitten is soooo cute!

Finally, I came across this article last night and it gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Click the link to reaffirm your faith in humanity. There are still good people out there who know the value kindness.
