I planted my vegetable seeds last Monday, so I wasn’t expecting any newborns until tomorrow at the earliest, (especially after that weird snow day – See What the Snow?). However, when I went to water my seed tray on Sunday, I found two little leaves poking through the dirt!
I’m pretty sure it’s a radish, but I’ll have to wait and let it grow a little bigger before making a positive identification. I can hear all the pro-gardeners now, “Why didn’t you label your seed grid??” What can I say, I like an element of whimsy in the garden!
While the arrival of this green bundle of joy was already a surprise, this little guy made me smile even more because he is shaped like a heart. How cute is that?! To celebrate, I had to write a little haiku for my early spring miracle:
Cold and white, snow fell
Still, I grew cozy and warm
Heart of green, spring love
Hopefully, this year’s harvest will be plentiful. I planted beans, peas, radishes, zucchini, cucumbers, cantaloupe, tomatoes, green peppers, and a wide array of wildflowers, (including sunflowers). This year, I actually started my garden at the right time for Arizona. May the beans grow tall and the peas vine!
